Here’s weighty news: Americans’ expanding waistlines have caused some alarming beefing-up in places you wouldn’t expect.

Ambulances: American Medical Response, the largest ambulance company in the United States, introduced bariatric ambulances in 2001. Their cots can accommodate up to 1,600 pounds, compared with older models that hold only up to 800 pounds.
Caskets: A standard-size casket for adults used to be 24 inches wide, but 28-inch-wide models are becoming more common, according to the Casket & Funeral Supply Association of America (CFSA), a trade association for the funeral-supply industry, based in Lake Bluff, Illinois. One company, Goliath Casket, began making 29-inch caskets in the 1980s (the new models hold up to 1,000 pounds) but sold only about one per year. Now they ship half a dozen oversize models every month.

Fuel Usage:
Extra pounds cause cars, trucks, and planes to use more gasoline and jet…

FFFC Runners’ Series – Meet Julie

Julie2

FFFC: Please introduce yourself to our readers (i.e. your name, occupation, hobbies, etc.).

Julie, Management Analyst for the Social Security Administration. My main hobby is coaching college cheerleading. I spend most of my free time at practices, games and competitions. I also enjoy reading when I have a spare moment.

FFFC: When did you start running regularly?

Hmm…last Spring, I think?

FFFC: What inspired you to start running?

RAMONA!!! And the fact that I needed to get my butt into shape.

FFFC: What do you like most about running?

Running makes me feel so accomplished when I’m finished. I’m tired and sweaty, but I know I’ve just done something so good for my heart and body.

FFFC: What do you consider the greatest challenge with this fitness routine?

Finding the time to maintain a consistent routine. That, combined with the fact that I hate running on a treadmill, really limits my running options.

FFFC: Where do you prefer to run?

Outside! Running on a treadmill is soooo boring.

FFFC: What is the furthest you have run?

5 miles

FFFC: Do you run with any special running groups or partners?

No…though I am trying to get my husband into running.

FFFC: What are your current running goals?

I want to start running races. I’m planning to run my first 5k in March and I would LOVE to work up to a half marathon. (We’ll see how the 5k goes first lol).

FFFC: What other training do you do besides running?

Mostly classes offered at my gym (Body Step, Cycling, Pilates, Body Pump and occasionally Tae Bo).

FFFC: What has been your biggest accomplishment to date?

Losing almost 15 pounds!

FFFC: What is next for you?

One of my New Year’s resolutions is to get more consistent and begin running races. I’ve already got 5k distance running on my own, so I want to test that out in a race. Once I’ve got that under my belt, I plan to start working on a 10k training program.

FFFC: How can readers learn more about your running journey? (i.e. Facebook, Tumblr, Twitter, etc.)?

Umm…facebook?

BOOM BOOM POW!

Who used to watch Kung Fu theater as a child and secretly wished that was you up there on the screen fighting bad guys with cool karate moves?  Welp, I’m about to fulfill a childhood fantasy.  Well sort of.  No, I am not in a Kung Fu theater movie and no, I am not learning any official martial arts move but I am changing it up folks.

While on a week hiatus from boot camp I have received a flyer for a FREE Kickboxing Cardio session and I am GOING!!  I definitely want to see how well I have built up my cardio stamina with all of the sprinting and running.  I also want to challenge my body in a different way until boot camp returns.  Who is going to join me?

I’ll let you know how the class went!

Kickboxingflyer

And on another note, slipped on one of my suits this morning and lo and behold – it is TOO BIG!!  My midsection is down INCHES!!!!  Holy moly when did this happen?  I attribute it to the Sanders Optimum Fitness Bootcamp and the hard work from my Brick Bodies personal trainer – Heather Brooke Malone Wolf!  Yup, those 2 things together is what helped me get in some of the best shape of my life!!!  I am SOOOO EXCITED!!
