I know the no junk food challenge is well…challenging for many of us especially since it is all around us. It is also very affordable and cheap so temptation is very tempting. Next time you consider partaking in junk food think about these images.
Stay strong and fill your body with more real food every day to the point it will begin to crave it and not want the artificial stuff touted as real food. You crave junk food for a reason. Think about why. Yes folks the game is rigged. Don’t get caught up.
When I received a text from my cousin informing me she was headed to the market Sunday morning – she ain’t said nothing but a word when she invited me along. YES I plan to go with YOU!!!! Off we went at 8:10 am in the morning and what an adventure it was!
Did our first run through looking at everything out there and then on the 2nd pass picked up the items that caught our eye. I picked up some pretty delicious items like:
I even picked up a 6-pepper turkey burger but that was gone before I could take a decent photo of it. Who knew a turkey burget could be so moist and delicious with a kick of heat from the various peppers? Take a look at what I bought and if you have a delish fried green tomatoes recipe – pass it along!

The wonderful world of CHIA! Chia seeds that is. I tried it for the first time in my green smoothie and can you say “IN LOVE”? OMG, the flavor and texture really hit the spot in my green smoothie this morning. I already added almond milk and a splash of OJ as the base. Then added 2 handfuls of fresh baby spinach and frozen fruit (pineapple, strawberry, peach and mango) and topped it off with 1/2 of a banana. Threw in a TB of chia seeds and IT WAS ON!
More so than the taste, who knew those little seeds held such secrets to great nutrition? Oh I skipped what it taste like. A little nutty flavor that just enhanced the flavor of the green smoothie. Not too sweet, not too earthy tasting. It was just right!
I bought mine at Trader Joe’s at the advice from another Fitale and this is one of the best smoothie advice I have ever received. I can’t believe I went this long before trying it. Now I am a believer and TRUE FAN!
Let me just list some of the nutritional benefits of Chia Seeds:
- 6 grams of fiber
- 3 grams of protein
- 2.9 grams of Omega-3 fatty acids
And all of that in just 1 tablespoon! No wonder this came in a 5.3 oz bag! According to the packaging, Chia is often considered the richest plant-based source of dietary fiber, protein and Omega-3’s. I’m SOLD!

If you know what a chia pet is, please leave a comment below and what type of seeds are those that grow out into a green plant? Hmmm, inquiring minds want to know?

Anyone who knows me KNOWS I totally enjoy shopping at Wegmans. Granted, my husband does the majority of the family grocery shopping but on those rare occasions I go with him – Wegmans it is!!!! And now they are having an event at their Hunt Valley store (actually at all of their locations) where we can go and “taste” their organic offerings! I am TOO excited.
This event is:
Saturday, August 4 from 11:00 AM – 3:00 PM
And they are going to have a plethora of stations set up throughout the store. All organic branded products! Click here for more details: Wegmans Event.
